The United States has launched a major strategic push to secure its supply of critical minerals. Under the Trump administration, the federal government has orchestrated a $1.6 billion investment into USA Rare Earth, marking one of the most significant interventions in the private minerals sector in decades.

The deal includes a 10% government equity stake and more than $1.3 billion in debt financing, aimed at developing domestic mining and magnet production facilities essential for semiconductors, defense systems, and advanced technologies. The initiative is part of a broader “America First” strategy designed to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers—particularly China, which currently dominates the global rare earths market.

Managed through the US Commerce Department, the transaction also highlights the growing role of financial institutions and private capital in national security strategy, as the global race for critical resource dominance accelerates.
