 Live Office Hours
➡️ Swimmin’ In It
️ 9 Aug 2024

Coming to you live from the literal lake.

➡️➡️➡️ “For thousands of years, Manitoulin Island (“Mnidoo Minising” or “Odawa Minising”) has been the home of Anishinaabeg, the First or Original People.” From: Shelley Pearen’s “Four Voices”, which is available via the Anishinabe Spiritual Centre (anishinabespiritualcentre.ca). ⬅️⬅️⬅️

The one where I take a metaphor entirely too far. (What else is new? )

✅ define “generalist” voice teacher (vs “specialist”)
✅ describe my experience as a “generalist” voice teacher in academia
✅ outline how an independent voice teacher can still be a “specialist”

Two questions to ask about your continuing education:
1️⃣ has the person who is delivering the information worked with the same singer population as I have?
2️⃣ does the person delivering the information recognize and express the difference between being a generalist and a specialist?

➡️ discussed how not recognizing the waters we’re swimmin in can impact teaching and perception of teaching

articulated how much I wanted to get back in the
water

#shoutouts to
Liz Jackson Hearns (who I’ve learned so much from and with)
Cate Frazier Neely (without whose work, my road would be so much less smooth)
Lorna MacDonald (who knows she’s swimmin in a river and never ceases to try to support us ocean swimmers)
Traci Davis (who is navigating that ocean with so much joy and determination to do right by the singers she works with)
