About this video: In late August of 2024, the MBTA operated a track geometry train (a type of rail inspection train) with FRA/DOTX inspection coach number 216. As the MBTA does not own their own rail inspection coach, this work is normally done every 3 months or so with Amtrak equipment (which most often is car 10002 the “Corridor Clipper”). This train was an addition to the normal MBTA geometry train “schedule” in order to allow federal employees to gather data on the commuter rail’s tracks. The first clips of this train seen in this video were filmed on August 23 at the Holbrook/Randolph and Fairmount stations and on that day there were a few extra locomotives being transported on the geometry train’s consist. The rest of the clips featured show the train (this time with no extra equipment) operating through the following towns along the Newburyport/Rockport Line on August 20: Beverly, Rockport (4), Beverly (2), Hamilton, and Ipswich. All videos from these locations appear in the order that they are listed.
