This is not a genuine tutorial but rather a mouthwatering mini excursion to the default shader in Arnold. In Maya 2018 it's called "AI Standard Surface". Its first prominent parameters are metalness and specularity. If you drag the metal slider to the right the material will look darker and very much like polished metal. Specularity controls the shinyness in general. If you want to achieve the look of a standard Maya Lambert shader, set the Specularity to zero.

The Arnold Surface Shader has lots of valuable features such as subsurface scattering and thin film simulation.
