Nach den Synthesizern ESQ-1 und SQ-80 von Ensoniq kommt der VFX mit mehr Polyphonie und Wellenformen daher. Der VFX ermöglicht einen PPG-ähnlichen Klang mit einer Art Wavetable-Synthese.
Der VFX hat 21 Stimmen Polyphonie. Ein einzelner Patch kann bis zu 6 von 109 Wellenformen in seinem ROM-Speicher enthalten, die kombiniert und geschichtet werden können.
Fortschrittliche und analoge Synth-Parameter, einschließlich der dualen Multimode-Digitalfilter, drei 11-stufigen Hüllkurven, LFO und 15 Modulationsquellen, ermöglichen es, Sounds weiter zu formen und zu morphen. Es gibt sogar einen integrierten 24-Bit-Doppeleffektprozessor mit Reverb, Chorus, Flanging und Delay.
Der VFX hat eine Standard-Tastatur mit 61 Noten, Velocity und polyphonem Aftertouch. Der Synthesizer verfügt außerdem über eine vollständige MIDI-Implementierung mit 12 Kanälen für multitimbralen Einsatz.
Der VFX ist ein digitaler Synthesizer, aber durch die verwendeten Filter ist er nicht besonders geeignet für "fleischige Drum-and-Bass-Sounds". Dafür überzeugt er aber mit einigen schönen Streichern und strukturierten Sounds. Er wurde z.B von den Musikern, Rick Wakeman, Nick Rhodes oder Tony Banks verwendet.
In dieser Folge geht es hauptsächlich um die Instandsetzung der Bedienknöpfe.

Following the Ensoniq ESQ-1 and SQ-80 synthesizers, the VFX comes with more polyphony and waveforms. The VFX enables a PPG-like sound with a kind of wavetable synthesis.
The VFX has 21 voice polyphony. A single patch can hold up to 6 out of 109 waveforms in its ROM, which can be combined and layered.
Advanced and analog synth parameters, including the dual multimode digital filters, three 11-stage envelopes, LFO and 15 modulation sources allow sounds to be further shaped and morphed. There's even an onboard 24-bit dual effects processor with reverb, chorus, flanging, and delay.
The VFX has a standard 61-note keyboard with velocity and polyphonic aftertouch. The synthesizer also features a full MIDI implementation with 12 channels for multi-timbral use.
The VFX is a digital synthesizer, but due to the filters used it is not particularly suitable for "meaty drum and bass sounds". But he convinces with some nice strings and structured sounds. It was used e.g. by the musicians, Rick Wakeman, Nick Rhodes or Tony Banks.
