Wild Camping & Hammocking at The Bug Out Weekender

Описание к видео Wild Camping & Hammocking at The Bug Out Weekender

In this episode we travel to Builth Wells in Wales to attend the second Bug Out Hang out Weekender for a chance to meet likeminded people from all over the country and a great opportunity to form new friendships and communities.

After a gruelling 8 hour drive from Northumberland we eventually arrived in the beautiful and scenic village of Builth Wells. A short drive out of the village found us in the Bug Out’s wooded camp site.
There was the option of camping and campervan pitches, glamping pods, off grid cabins and a Tree House but for us it had to be hanging in the trees with our hammocks.

Friday night consisted of having a few drinks around the campfire with other preppers and survivalist and listening to their stories. Everyone was very welcoming and made an effort to include us in conversation. We drunkenly made our way back to our hammocks having made some new friends.
After some hot coffee and porridge we attended an introduction to communications talk which was very informative and covered different types of communication devices for if ever the grid goes down. Of particular interest was the discussion surrounding Ham radio and the legal requirements to be able to currently broadcast.

After a short break we returned for a talk by Gavin Ireland from Found Foods on an introduction to foraging. This was not only a classroom discussion but we also got to go out and forage. We were told about the difficulty in correctly identifying mushrooms, the edible parts of several trees and wild plants and we even got to sample some home made dandelion root coffee.

After lunch we were treated to a 10km hike up Garth Hill for some spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Looking over the village and the river Wye, the 281m climb was worth every step.
After a packed day of talks and the hike we opted for an early night so we could be fresh for the final day.
We had our food bag scrambled eggs with bacon grill to fuel us for a morning of shooting air rifles and crossbows before attending another talk. This time it was by Tom @PreparedPathfinder and covered 5 tips for preparedness.

A massive thank you to Leigh from @TheBugOutShop for putting on a brilliant event and for letting us film. We took a lot away from this event, not only the extra knowledge we picked up but hopefully so new found friendships. Hope to see you all again some time soon.
