The Battle Beatle from Lunkerhunt reminds me of the classic baits I grew up fishing. This jointed crankbait wiggles back and forth, rattling along and pushing water causing enough commotion to intrigue even picky Bass. The other morning I noticed a few Bass come out from underneath a dock when I walked out so I came back a little later in the morning and put the Battle Beatle to the test. It got smoked on the first cast but I made a rookie mistake and forgot to tighten my drag down and lost the fish. I gave it another shot and that Bass must have really wanted Beatle for breakfast because he came back and smoked it again. This time I was prepared and I landed the fish.
The Battle Beatle is a super fun bait to fish and works great when there aren't a lot of weeds around to snag the treble hooks. The buck tale on the trebles is a nice touch however you might want to think about upgrading the hooks to something a little more durable if you have big largemouth in your lakes. I've found a nice slow retrieve with occasion twitches to be the most effective way to fish this bait and when they eat it, they crush it so hold on!
