How CTG Works:
*Fetal Heart Rate (FHR):* CTG monitors the baby's heart rate. A transducer placed on the mother's abdomen detects the baby's heartbeat, and the data is displayed on a monitor or printed on a paper strip.
*Uterine Contractions:* Another sensor measures the frequency and intensity of contractions if the mother is in labor.

When is CTG Used?
*Routine Monitoring:* CTG is often used during labor to ensure that the baby is coping well with contractions.
*High-Risk Pregnancies:* If there are concerns about the baby's health, such as reduced fetal movements, or if the mother has certain conditions like pre-eclampsia or diabetes, CTG may be used more frequently.
*Non-Stress Test (NST):* A form of CTG where the baby’s heart rate is monitored to see if it accelerates with movements, indicating good oxygenation.

Interpretation:
*Normal CTG:* A normal or "reactive" CTG shows a stable fetal heart rate with accelerations and no significant decelerations, indicating that the baby is likely well-oxygenated.
*Abnormal CTG:* If the heart rate is too high, too low, or shows certain patterns of deceleration, it may indicate that the baby is in distress, leading to further investigations or interventions.
