What is Thermal Sensitivity and How Important is NETD for Thermal Imaging?

Описание к видео What is Thermal Sensitivity and How Important is NETD for Thermal Imaging?

One specification that is often overlooked at the expense of resolution is thermal sensitivity. Thermal sensitivity, also referred to as Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference (NETD), describes the smallest temperature difference observed when using a thermal device.

Thermal devices measure sensitivity in milliKelvins (mK). The lower the number, the more sensitive the detector. Better sensitivity makes thermal imagers more effective, but why is it important?

🔹Improved image contrast and sharpness
🔹See in challenging conditions like fog and smoke
🔹Detect smaller temperature differences

Devices with better thermal sensitivity are ideal for a wide variety of uses from search and rescue to industrial inspection to security.
