Swarnamali Maha Seya, also known as Ruwanwelisaya, is a magnificent stupa located in the sacred city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It is one of the most revered and iconic Buddhist monuments in the country. Built by King Dutugemunu in 140 B.C., the stupa stands at an impressive height of 103 meters and has a diameter of 290 meters at its base.

This stupa enshrines relics of the Buddha, making it a site of immense religious significance. The structure’s white dome, adorned with golden pinnacle, represents purity and peace, and is surrounded by a large courtyard where devotees gather to offer prayers and perform rituals. The Swarnamali Maha Seya plays a central role in Buddhist ceremonies and is a symbol of Sri Lankan cultural and spiritual heritage.

Today, it remains one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Sri Lanka, drawing thousands of visitors each year who come to admire its grandeur and pay their respects.
