Here’s the blotter update…

It’s interesting that, with the possible exception of the Bogues, all these scents are quite linear: evidence of modern aesthetics and creation styles, I suppose. The MDCI can be dispensed with straight away: dim-witted, sickly and depressing. The Pierre Guillaume is considerably more attractive, but almost equally forgettable — with its predictably sweet-resinous drydown, it doesn’t have a great deal to add to its story. I remain impressed with the Byredo: the woods balance against the iris in commendable fashion. The Bogues settle on a soft, balsamic-floral drydown, with the edt offering more ‘breathing space’. Vetiver Bourbon somehow manages to veer away from all-out swampiness, maintaining a restrained classiness throughout. Finally, the H24 edp is perhaps less nuanced than the edt, leaning heavily on the metallic sclarene effect. But I’m taken with it, and shall probably seek out a bottle.
