Technology has enabled us to be on and available to work 24/7… but that’s just not healthy. A study by LinkedIn found that nearly 60% of workers surveyed by said they engaged in work duties while taking time off. You need time off to disengage. You need to refresh, you need to relax. It's not really a vacation if you are checking in with the office every day. Want to go on vacation without feeling the need to work while you are away? Just follow these tips!

1 -Plan your vacation as early as possible. Put it on your calendar, your teams calendar, shout it from the rooftops.

2 - Coordinate ahead of time with your boss who will cover your tasks while you are away

3 - Plan to complete all of YOUR tasks a couple of days before you depart… don’t save any work for the last day.. That’s always going to be a busy one!

4 - Tell your team you will be unreachable, but give them a “special” way to reach you.

5 - Set an out of office reply for your e-mail, and your voicemail.

6 - Spend some “turnover” time with your backup before you go to make sure they understand everything that is going on and what they need to cover. Make sure you arm your backup, or your team with enough information as possible so they can make decisions on your behalf.

7 - Don’t check your e-mail unless you’ve been contacted the “special” way.

8 - Plan to spend the first morning after you return from vacation going through e-mail… but start from the newest and work backwards.
