I walk in, and I'm in my own zone to receive whatever is going to happen in the scene.

When Nolan said, ‘Let’s rehearse,’ this is what Matthew did:

“Uh, uh, we’re not rehearsing, live, roll.“

And what you see in that take, that's the first take.

Everything after take one is acting.

Take one is where you really are reacting.

So I wanted to see that footage of my children in the movie for the first time—not have any anticipation of what’s gonna come next or what they're going to say next. I just wanted to receive it and let happen what happens.

I’m not trying to do anything in that scene.
