I wanted to take a look at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and articulate just how deep it is in comparison to the 2019 NHL Entry Draft from last year. In order to do this, I needed to do a few things.
First, I took Future Considerations' final draft rankings list for 2019, and their most recent 2020 NHL Entry Draft rankings list too, and took the top 15 players from each. We will then be ranking these 30 players, in my opinion, to visualize just how strong and deep the 2020 Draft is.
Don't get me wrong, the 2019 NHL Draft class has a ton of great names. Going off the board, Jack Hughes, Kaapo Kakko, Bowen Byram, Alex Turcotte, Trevor Zegras, Cole Caufield, Kirby Dach, Peyton Krebs, Alex Newhook, Vasili Podkolzin, Matthew Boldy, Dylan Cozens, Cam York, Ryan Suzuki, Victor Soderstrom, Moritz Seider, Arthur Kaliyev, and Bobby Brink, all these guys are going to be great.
However, with guys like Alexis Lafrenière, Quinton Byfield, Lucas Raymond, Anton Lundell, Alexander Holtz, Noel Gunler, Cole Perfetti, Yaroslav Askarov, Hendrix Lapierre, Jamie Drysdale, Marco Rossi, Tim Stützle, Justin Barron, Dylan Holloway, Dylan Peterson, Jan Mysak, Jean-Luc Foudy, Antonio Stranges, Kasper Simontaival, and Zion Nybeck, the 2020 NHL Entry Draft is much deeper, in my opinion.
