Shree Navadurga Jatra In Madkai-Goa Is Like No Other, And People From All Over Goa Attend It, To Get Blessings.

Shree Navadurga Temple is a must visit place in Goa. There are two stories associated with Goddess Navadurga, with a tilted head in Madkai. Goddess Navadurga fulfilled a wish of a devotee, and as promised to the goddess he went to the market to buy flowers worth ₹1000/- to offer to the Goddess, but couldn't find any flowers in the market, at last he met an old woman who had just one small flower bud in her basket, without any further thought he took the flower bud from the old woman and paid her ₹1000/- and offered it to the goddess, he asked the goddess whether she accepted his offering. Goddess Navadurga acknowledged by tilting her head to the offering made by her devotee.

The other story is about a Goldsmith who made a gold mask for the Goddess, and the goddess appreared in his dream and asked him to make the mask resembling his daughters face. He followed instructions given by Goddess Navadurga. In a few days the Goldsmith's daughter left for the heavenly abode. The goldsmith was very sad for the loss of his daughter, that is when Goddess Navadurga appeared in front of him and told him that every year she will visit his home in the face of his daughter. Hence it is said by the locals that the Palki of Goddess Navadurga is taken to the Goldsmith's house ever#y year and on its way back it gets very heavy, resembling a married daughter returning back from home.
