In this video, we will discuss the holding company business as a relevant activity in ESR. Economic substance regulations clearly explain what a "holding company business" activity entails. It also details what the core income-generating activities (or CIGA's) are for a Holding company business.

A holding company business -
1) Must have a license to operate as a holding company
2) Hold shares or other equitable interests in other companies
3) Not conduct any other commercial activity

If the business falls under the definition of a holding company business then, they must make sure that they conduct all the CIGA in UAE. The business must also make sure that it reports to the ministry of economy, or the relevant authority in the free-zone, or the financial free zones for ESR purposes.
