Allisha Watts was a 35-year-old woman from Moore County, North Carolina, who went missing on July 16, 2023, after leaving her boyfriend’s home in Charlotte. She was supposed to attend a comedy show at Bojangles Coliseum, but she never made it. Her family and friends reported her missing on July 19, when she did not show up for work.
The main suspect in her disappearance and death was her boyfriend, James Dunmore, a 51-year-old man who was married to another woman. Dunmore was found unresponsive in Watts’ Mercedes-Benz SUV on July 18 in Anson County, and was hospitalized for several days. He claimed he had no memory of what happened to Watts or where she was.
Investigators searched for Watts’ body in several locations, based on digital evidence that linked Dunmore to the areas. On August 24, they finally found her remains in a wooded area near a cemetery in Montgomery County, near the Richmond County line. They believe her body had been there since July 18, the same day Dunmore was found in her car.
Dunmore was arrested at his home in University City on August 24, and charged with first-degree murder. He appeared in court on August 28, where he was denied bond and assigned a court-appointed attorney. He faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted.
Watts’ family and friends are devastated by the loss of their loved one, who they described as a beautiful, kind, and loving person. They are seeking justice for her and hope that Dunmore will pay for what he did. They also want to raise awareness about domestic violence and the dangers of dating someone who is abusive and controlling.
