This Core Concept video focuses on the Self-Consciousness section of G.W.F. Hegel's early masterpiece, the Phenomenology of Spirit, and examines his discussion of the dialectical development of the Slave's consciousness in the famous Master-Slave dialectic. Three things are required for this development of consciousness for-itself, i.e, independent consciousness to take place: Fear, Service, and Work.
