Magazine Rubbings, Easy No Sanding Technique - Espresso Press Design

New playlist, Trash To Treasure. My first explorations of this technique includes full images, combined images and torn strips embossed with word/text embossing folders just for fun, I'll be doing more with this in future videos.

What you’ll need:

An embossing/die cutting machine works best but you can use any object for texture, even cling stamps.

Embossing folders

Magazine images

Heavy paper for base, can be book pages glued together, scrapbook paper, folders, index cards, watercolor paper, packaging

Glue

Scissors

Spray bottle with 50/50 mixture water and rubbing alcohol

Soft cloth

Start by selecting your magazine images—darker ones work best, but any texture will show. Arrange either full images or torn strips on your base and glue. Let everything dry completely, ensuring no stickiness remains before embossing.

Choose an embossing folder and run your image through the machine.

Lightly spray the embossed image with an alcohol-water mixture. Use a soft cloth to rub over the embossing. The alcohol dissolves the ink, revealing the embossed texture. If the image dries out, spray again, but avoid soaking it to prevent tearing. Keep rubbing until you’re happy with the result. Since magazines vary, experiment with a few.

You can create a color mosaic or blend images and colors for unique effects. For lighter areas, add ink on top to make the embossing stand out more.
