Friendly international - Brazil v Uruguay at Recife.

There has always been tremendous rivalry between Uruguay and Brazil when it comes to soccer. Much of the feeling stems from the 1950 World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium, which Uruguay has the audacity to win 2-1 in front of nearly 200,000 Brazilian fans.

And the old feelings bubbled up to the surface again Thursday when they met in a friendly match that proved to be the exact opposite of its name.

Colombian referee Jacome Guerrero had to have a police escort at the end after sending off Uruguayan players Carrasco and Ribas.

The match was held up for several minutes when Uruguayan officials and substitutes rushed onto the pitch protesting Ribas's dismissal.

Police intervened and the Uruguayans only resumed the game after calming words from coach Omar Borras. More violence occurred later and in one incident Uruguayan forward Da Silva brandished a boot as fans invaded the pitch.

Uruguay had already qualified for the World Cup finals in Mexico next year, Brazil's qualifying group starts up later this month.
