The Newport Cliff Walk is one of the top attractions in Newport, Rhode Island. It is a 3.5-mile public access walkway that borders the shoreline. It has been designated a National Recreation Trail, the 1st in New England. Details on each segment, with the various mansions along the walk, are listed below:

1️⃣ 0:25 Memorial Blvd (Easton's Beach) to Forty Steps (at Narragansett Ave.) starting at First Beach, this is the easiest segment of the walk as it is all paved with no steps, ideal for a casual walk or jog.
• 0:25 Cliff Lawn 1873 (aka The Chanler Hotel, built for U.S. Congressman (NY) John Winthrop Chanler. The Chanler family occupied the home overlooking the Atlantic Ocean for 50 yrs).
• Hopedene 1902 (the estate was the purchased by investment banker and automotive enthusiast Nicholas Schorsch).
• North Cottage 1872 (built for William Gammell, professor at Brown University)
• Ocean Lawn 1889 (in the 1950s was purchased by Harvey S. Firestone, son of the founder of Firestone Tire).

2️⃣ 14:10 40 Steps to Ruggles Ave. which is the most popular segment of the cliffwalk, it provides an easy walk along the Salve Regina Campus.
• Orche Point1884 (unlike most of the Newport mansions, ownership has remained in the Goelet family).
• 19:51 Orchre Court 1892 (the Oden Goelet Estate, 2nd largest mansion and currently Salve’s main administration building).
• 20:17 Cave Cliff 1875 (mansard house)
• 23:00 Vinland 1882 (built for tobacco heiress Catharine Lorillard Wolfe. donated to Salve Regina University, now McAuley Hall).
• 29:41 The Breakers 1895 (summer cottage to Cornelius Vanderbilt II, Newport’s largest mansion).

3️⃣ 30:19 Ruggles Ave. to Belmont Beach which covers a touch of rough terrain and waves breaking near walk when wind is strong from South.
• 31:25 Angelsea 1880 (summer residence of Walter H. Lewis).
• 34:18 Fairholme 1875 (tudor-style estate).
• 34:54 Midcliff 1886 (summer residence of Caroline Ogden M. Jones).
• Honeysuckle Lodge 1885 (summer cottage estate for Josiah M. Fiske).

4️⃣ 40:08 Belmont Beach to Ledge Road includes 57:53 Sheep Point Tunnel and 1:06:39 covers pieces of Rugged Terrain especially at Rough Point, however this is most rewarding for serious hikers not afraid of heights.
• 44:40 Rosecliff 1902 (scenes from several movies have been shot on location, including The Great Gatsby).
• 45:00 Whitney Studio (the studio of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, whose parents lived at the nearby Breakers).
• 47:25 Beachwood 1851 (aka Astor Mansion, Colonel John Jacob Astor IV Astor died aboard the RMS Titanic).
• 49:20 Marble House 1892 & Tea House (“Summer Cottage” for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt. 39th birthday present for Mrs. Vanderbilt. The Vanderbilts divorced in 1895 and Alva married Oliver H.P. Belmont, moving down the street to Belcourt Castle).
• 57:38 Beaulieu 1856 (one of Newport’s oldest homes).
• 57:43 Clarendon Court 1904 (served as a set for the film High Society, the musical version of The Philadelphia Story that starred Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Grace Kelly).
• 1:00:58 Miramar 1913 (built in for railway magnate George D. Widener and his wife, Eleanor. The year before the residence was completed, Mr. & Mrs. Widener, with their son Harry, travelled on the Titanic, only Mrs. Widener survived).
• 1:01:17 Ocean View 1866.
• Rock Cliff 1887 (Roger Wilson Cutler's ''Ames Villa'' estate).
• 1:04:24 Rough Point 1887 (left to the “richest little girl in the world” in 1925 Doris Duke).
• 1:10:40 Land’s End 1893 (Summer 'cottage' of author Edith Wharton).

5️⃣ 1:19:45 Ledge Rd. to Bellevue Ave. Lands’ End (1:34:00at Baileys Reject Beach) is sometimes missed by Cliff Walkers, but if you have done segment 4 this is easy and better than walking out Ledge Rd.
• 1:19:46 The Waves 1927 (was A&P grocery store heiress Josephine Hartford Bryce, currently subdivided into condominiums).
• 1:25:20 Pelican Ledge The Home of the late Senator Claiborne Pell.
• 1:29:27 Plaisance 1853 (one of the earliest mansions on the drive)
