How to Desqueeze Sirui 1.33 Anamorphic Footage in Final Cut Pro X

In this Sixty Second Tutorial we look at two methods of desqueezing footage filmed using the Sirui Anamorphic Lens footage in Final Cut Pro X, we cover the following...

1. If you are looking to desqueeze anamorphic footage in Final Cut Pro X, there are two common methods.

2. The first and most simple is if you are using anamorphic 1.33 footage on a standard 16:9 timeline such as 1920x1080, or 3840x2160…

3. With your Sirui Anamorphic Footage added to the timeline, go to Transform in the Inspector and change the Y axis to 75.19.

This will desqueeze the Anamorphic footage to display correctly and leave the classic cinematic black bars at the top and bottom of your video.

4. The second method involves creating a project that is a dedicated anamorphic size, removing the black bars on the final export.

5. To do this, create a new project and next to the video option select ‘Custom’.

Here Change the resolution to 5107 x 2160.

Then in the transform option change the scale X property to 133.

This will desqueeze your footage to fit correctly in the frame.

Be sure when exporting under settings to select ‘Format’ - Video and Audio as this will allow you to export in the custom Anamorphic resolution of 5107 x 2160 and avoid adding the black bars on the top and bottom of your video (as if you were exporting in a 16:9 ratio).
