vlog 12. COME TO COURT WITH ME! | A Day in My Life as an Advocate | Loyiso Makapela

When I started working, I realised that but for the in court experience that I was afforded through taking part in various moot courts, I would have never known what it entails to "go to Court" as a lawyer/Advocate. Strange if you consider the fact that I was studying to become just that. That's like a med student starting their first day at the Hospital having never set foot in there.

And yet this is the reality for most law students and young legal professionals, particularly in South Africa (where I am based). I wonder why that is.

In this vlog, I share what a typical day getting ready for Court and being in Court is like for me. Although I have previously mentioned that no two days are the same for an Advocate, when it comes to Court, I absolutely love my routine, the predictability (due to the legal profession being an age old profession with very many rules in place) and excitement (on my part) that comes with every trip.

I hope to show that while you cannot control all the many variables involved, it helps to make sure you're on top of every single thing that within your control. Even on days where I have the absolute hardest day in court (tough case, tough Judge, tough opponent, bad traffic, zero parking).

Basically, life: it is all bound to happen. The worst is when it all happens more or less on the same day.

Fortunately that was not the case on this day.I had the most wonderfully productive day, and as I have a comfortable and longstanding working relationship with the attorneys on brief and had acted for the Client previously, everything went by smoothly. #DayInMyLife #Lawyer #StudyTube #Advocate
