Enhancing Patient Safety by Introducing Introcan Safety® 3 Non-Ported Closed IV Catheter

B. Braun would like to share with you the talk delivered by Glynis Bennet, Deputy Director Infection Prevention and Control, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, at the 2022 NIVAS Symposium. Glynis’ talk provides a review of the evidence supporting a move away from an IV cannula with an injection port to a non-ported IV cannula, including highlighting the bacterial colonisation rates associated with injection ports and examples of patient case studies. Glynis also provides a road map as to how a non-ported IV cannula was introduced across the NHS organisations she has worked in and a review of ongoing practice improvements including reducing infection rates.
