Did you know that in 2014, the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), developed the National Cyber Security Policy and Strategy, to provide direction for mainstreaming Nigeria’s National Cybersecurity Program and set the path for effective coordination of the activities of all relevant stakeholders across government, academia and the private sector to handle the dynamism of security threats in the cyber domain?

The cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, ETC)Act 2015 was developed and signed into law as the legal and regulatory framework for the implementation and governance of National Cybersecurity in the Country, wherein provisions were made for the review of the National cybersecurity policy and Strategy every 5 years, in line with global best practices.

Further to this, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria adopted the National Cyber Security Policy and Strategy, 2021 on February 23, 2021.
The policy addresses a plethora of topics which include:
1. Strengthening Cybersecurity Governance and Coordination
2. Fostering protection of critical National Information Infrastructure
3. Enhancing Cybersecurity Incident Management
4. Strengthening Legal and Regulatory Framework
5. Enhancing Cyber Defence Capacity
6. Promoting a thriving Digital Economy
7. Assurance, Monitoring and Evaluation
8. Enhancing International Cooperation
