Major Charles A. Bradbrooke, originally from Middlesex County, England, lived a busy life. He arrived in Saskatchewan in 1890 and worked in the Buchanan and Yorkton areas before returning to England to enlist in the 1st Battalion of the Oxfordshire Light Infantry. Following his deployment to South Africa for the second Anglo-Boer War, Bradbrooke transferred to the British Imperial Army. He served in Aden and India where he managed military dairy farms.

In 1907, he returned to Canada. He worked as a physical education instructor at Acadia University in Nova Scotia before returning to Saskatchewan in 1911. Not long after, he again enlisted in the military and served in the Great War where he was wounded in action.

After the war, he returned to Saskatchewan and farmed near Madge Lake until 1922 when he became the Indian Agent in Kamsack.

Bradbrooke accumulated many records throughtout his busy life. They are now preserved at the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan as the Major Charles A. Bradbrooke fonds (F 70) and are important historical resources for colonial practices of the time.
