Giving cash lets families design their own futures | Canva & GiveDirectly

An effective way of helping someone in extreme poverty is to simply give them money. Not a loan, but cash without conditions. It enables families to buy what they need and have a consistent source of income, allowing them to invest in themselves and their children. Unlike giving, say, livestock or trainings, giving money recognizes that within a community, every person has different needs.

GiveDirectly and Canva partnered to send money directly to some of the world's poorest people. Their pilot, launched in March in Khongoni, Malawi, will deliver ~$50 per month for 12 months to 12,800 adults, giving them the funds to design their own destinies.
