WCSC TV 5 Charleston SC Sign off and Sign on 1989

Описание к видео WCSC TV 5 Charleston SC Sign off and Sign on 1989

Combined here in one clip are the sign-off and sign-on of South Carolina's oldest TV station and Charleston's longtime CBS network affiliate. The sign-off was recorded sometime in mid-August 1989 and the sign-on on or around 6 November 1989. The clip commences with the closing seconds of a late-night classic flick show called When Movies Were Movies, which was hosted by Mike Hiott. It's Mr. Hiott's voice we hear delivering both the sign-off and sign-on announcements. Both the sign-off and sign-on features a video montage of the Charleston area, including the historic section of downtown. Also seen briefly are the two giant steel bridges over the Cooper River, which the Webmaster had the privilege of driving on during a vacation with friends at Charleston a few years before this clip was recorded. Both bridges were replaced by a new eight-lane cable-stayed bridge in 2005. Both the sign-off and sign-on plays a late 1960s SSB film produced by the United States Navy (the sign-on has the first several seconds of it missing). These videos were captured at my home near Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at least 250 miles from Charleston, which explains the fuzziness in the video.
