Audiometric testing is a legal requirement in each state, and is the best way to assess whether your workplace is damaging your employees' hearing.
It is a complicated task, and to do it properly requires knowing the answers to many pertinent questions. Sure looks like a lot, and, whilst these are all important, you may only need to answer a few.

To start, here are three key questions concerning audiometric testing that you will always need an answer to:

1. When is audiometric testing required?
In any workplace where an employee is required to wear hearing protection, testing must take place at regular intervals. This is usually within three months after they start work, and then at least once every two years, and sometimes annually.

2. Who can provide an audiometric test?
An audiometric test can only be carried out by someone with adequate training and experience. They must also be able to interpret the results and then present them in a manner that enables the workplace to act accordingly.

3. Who do the audiometric testing results need to be provided to? In all states, the test results need to be provided to the employees they relate to, and only shared if consent is given. In some states, they must also be provided to the authority.

This is merely the start, three critical questions that will lead to many more concerning parameters, assessment, reporting, documentation, and further examination.
