From Thursday 2 April to Sunday 5 April, thousands of activists, workers, students and radicals will gather in Melbourne for Australia’s biggest annual socialist conference.

This year’s theme, Marxism for a New Left, speaks to the new generation of people turning towards anti-capitalist politics — and to the urgent need to rebuild a stronger, more organised left.

Across four days of talks, debates, workshops and panels, Marxism 2026 will tackle the biggest questions facing the movements of today:

Marxism and Class War – From strikes and union struggles to the fight for housing and climate justice, explore how class shapes every political question — and why working-class power is key to transforming society.

Marxism and Palestine – In the face of Israel’s ongoing assault on Palestine and the global solidarity movement, we’ll explore the key political questions it raises, and uncover the radical left traditions, debates, and histories within the struggles for Palestinian liberation and the wider Arab working class.

Marxism and the Far Right – Understand the roots of the far right’s rise, how it mobilises, and how it can be defeated — drawing lessons from Marxist theory, history and today’s struggles.

Marxism and Organisation – We urgently need to turn anger into collective strength and for that, building revolutionary organisations matters more than ever.

Alongside these pillars, the conference will feature streams on history, revolutionary strategy, gender and race politics, and a critical look at rival ideas — from liberalism to reformism — to sharpen the socialist alternative.
