This model railway was built by my father in the late 1970s. The buildings were all "scratch built" mostly from plans found in old issues of Model Railroader magazine. I think it's fair to say that Dad intended this layout to be more like a diorama than an operating model railway. This explains the tight curves and steep grades that make this railway challenging to operate, maintain and find suitable locomotives and rolling stock. Soon after the railway was completed he said I could have it and the railway saw much use over the next 3 or 4 years. By the mid 80s and my teenage years I had begun to drift away from the hobby and the railway ended up stored away in the basement for the next decade or so.

After Dad passed away in 1996 I decided to take posession of it again. It seemed an ideal something to remember Dad by and I was eager to get back into the hobby by now as well. The years spent in the basement covered by a sheet had taken its toll and there was much repair work to be done on many of the buildings and other structures. By 1998 the railway was fully up and running again. Since then I've added more trees and a few other scenic features as well as expanding the fleet.

40 years on and still running.
