💠This offering features a very unusual facet of Dr Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna (BMK).
Something that many of us may not have known hitherto. That he could speak quite good Hindi and even participate in an interview in Hindi. That’s novel.

💠 This is an All India Radio (AIR) national broadcast and was aired on 8th February 1999. Dr. Balamuralikrishna is interviewed by Dr. Sumathi Krishnan.

💠 It’s a rare recording, comprising a rich fare of his ideas in conversation in Hindi and some renditions. The renditions are extempore without accompaniments. That’s some novelty.

💠 Notwithstanding all the novelties in this rare recording, a few aspects are noteworthy.
His fluency in Hindi is a confirmation once more of his extraordinary flair for his ability to render correctly the lyrics in the compositions in multiple languages. While we were familiar with his correct rendition of lyrics, it is the fluency in spoken Hindi too that is revealing.

💠 As inclusive his music was with his national outlook, his fluency with Hindi is further evidence of the same beyond music. This is probably the reason in addition to his standing in music as a leading Carnatic music performer, he could also enjoy the bonhomie with leading performers of Hindustani music.

💠 This recording is a testimony to the all-round outlook of BMK to reach out to listeners of his music all over the country.
