Apple Upside Down Recipe

2 Apples (Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, Cortland, Pink Lady, Granny Smith are good for baking with)

Caramel

3/4 cup white sugar
3 Tbsps water
3 Tbsps butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla (optional)

or

1/2 cup brown sugar (light)
1/3 cup butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Mix butter, brown sugar and cinnamon together in a pot. Do not let it boil. Let it melt together and come to a simmer. Let it simmer for a couple mins. Remove from heat and add vanilla.

Spiced Vanilla cake

1/2 cup butter (unsalted)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract/ paste
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsps baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 cup whole milk

Optional additional spices
1/8 tsp cardamom
1/8 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp ginger

Equipment needed:

Heavy bottom pot
Rubber Spatula
Knife
Chopping board
Measuring cups
Measuring spoons
Mixer ( stand mixer or hand mixer)
Paddle attachment
8 or 9 inch cake pan with high sides
Parchment paper
Plate, cake stand (10 inches)

Whip cream or chantily cream
