What is Payment of Wages Act?
The Payment of Wages Act, 1936 was enacted to regulate the payment of wages to certain classes of workers in India. Its primary aim is to ensure timely payment of wages without unauthorized deductions by employers.
The Act provides a legal framework that governs the procedures, timeframes, and methods for the disbursement of wages to employees.

Objectives of Payment of Wages Act:
Timely Payment: To ensure that employees are paid their wages in a timely manner, without unnecessary delays.
Protection from Unjust Deductions: To prevent employers from making unauthorized deductions from wages.
Legal Framework: To establish a clear framework that outlines the rights of employees and the obligations of employers regarding wage payments.
Standardization: To create uniformity across industries for payment terms, timings, and wage calculations.

Key Definitions of Payment of Wages Act
Wages: Any remuneration paid to employees for their work, including allowances, bonuses, and other forms of income related to employment.
Employee: Any person employed in any industry to do any skilled, unskilled, manual, supervisory, clerical, or technical work.
Employer: A person responsible for the payment of wages to employees, including legal representatives of a deceased employer.
Wage Period: The time interval at the end of which wages are paid to employees, which may not exceed one month.
