Chapter 92 – VISITING LIGHTSPACE
I was invited to visit Lightspace Pro-Laser in Guangzhou, a major manufacturer of laser projectors. I was happy to visit, as this allowed me to ride China’s high-speed trains. I was soon seated in my comfortable first-class seat as the train sped through tunnels under the city of Shenzhen before speeding through the suburbs and the countryside on this 45-minute, 128-kilometre journey. While the average speed of the trip was approximately 171 km/h, the train reached speeds over 300 km/h in certain sections. Once I arrived in Guangzhou, one of the staff members from the factory picked me up. The tour started on the ground floor in the extensive CNC workshop where they do all their own precision metalwork, including making their own heatsinks and doing their own surface grinding, for assembling the lasers and projectors. We went upstairs to visit the sales department, the engineering department, the scanner building department where no photos were allowed, their extensive warehouse with weeks of supplies and inventory, the QC area where some laser projectors were on test. Finally, we went to their large and impressive demo showroom, which was still under construction. I have included a multi-projector beam and graphics show, all projected with Lightspace’s state-of-the-art laser projectors from my last visit. After the tour, we went to a neighbourhood restaurant to enjoy some Cha Siu pork before I headed back to Shenzhen on the high-speed train, after an interesting and enjoyable day.
