Just hours before a single bullet pierced Lashunda McLendon's chest, the Charlotte woman told 911 dispatchers her eventual murderer needed to be behind bars.

Police took the suspect to jail, but the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office turned her away. A WCNC Charlotte investigation found the justice system failed to protect McLendon.
