We’ve fabricated the quarter panels. Now it’s time to apply them. It might sound simple, but slicing into this 1956 Mercury, believed to be customized by Barris, is nerve-wracking. The quarter panels were extended and reshaped back in the 1950s, and we’ve done our best to match that original customization line for line. Now comes the real test: fitting them to the car.

We’re overlapping the panel on the original body line, tacking it in place, and then cutting through the seam to achieve a clean butt-weld. But the moment we started prepping the area, we ran into a surprise: a TON of lead filler. It honestly felt like we were mining for gold just trying to find clean metal underneath. But that’s what real custom cars are… layers of history, handwork, and hard lessons.

This process might be gritty, but it’s the kind of work we live for. Let’s see if these new quarters fit like a glove… or fight us every inch of the way.
