At 10:17 hrs IST today, 12 January 2026, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) marked a major milestone by launching the PSLV-C62 mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota. This mission, the first orbital launch of India’s 2026 space calendar, showcased the nation’s advancing space capabilities and international partnerships.
🛰️ EOS-1 (EOS-N1): India’s Advanced Earth Observation Satellite
The centerpiece of the mission is the EOS-1 satellite (also referred to as EOS-N1 or Anvesha), a high-resolution Earth observation satellite developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
EOS-1 is equipped with hyperspectral imaging capabilities, enabling it to capture Earth’s surface in hundreds of narrow spectral bands — a major leap over conventional satellites. This allows detailed identification of materials, terrain features, vegetation, and environmental changes.
Its advanced sensors support strategic surveillance, disaster management, agricultural monitoring, and environmental studies, boosting India’s space-based observation infrastructure.
🔭 Divya Drishti Satellite
Alongside EOS-1, the mission included the Divya Drishti satellite. While ISRO has not published a detailed mission brief specifically naming a spacecraft “Divya Drishti”, the name Divya Drishti is used in defence and surveillance contexts — referring to advanced sensing and electronic systems aimed at enhancing real-time situational awareness and surveillance capabilities developed under India’s broader defence programmes.
Therefore, this satellite is expected to support specialised observation, surveillance, or payload operations that dovetail with India’s expanded geospatial data requirements.
🌐 Co-Passenger Satellites
The PSLV-C62 rocket also carried 14 other satellites from Indian and international organizations, including research, educational, and commercial payloads.
These co-passengers include small CubeSats and experimental satellites, demonstrating global collaboration and ISRO’s role as a trusted ride-share launch provider for international customers.
🚀 PSLV: India’s Reliable Workhorse
The mission used the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-DL) variant — known for its reliability and multi-satellite deployment capability.
