We are “Just Theatre,” a musical political-satire troupe from Winnipeg, Canada. In grief, horror, and outrage at the murder of Renee Nicole Good, we wrote this piece about two weeks after her death. It is an adaptation of “Joe Hill,” the immortal protest song about an earlier martyr in the long history of humanity’s struggle for justice. If you would like to use it, PLEASE FEEL FREE! May it honour the blessed memory of Renee and her fellow martyr, gentle Alex Pretti, and all others who have been brutalized, deported, and murdered by ICE -- and may it inspire all who heroically continue the fight against tyranny.
"Joe Hill" - lyrics by Alfred Hayes, music by Earl Robinson

Lyrics
I dreamed I saw Renee last night
Alive as you or me
Says I, Renee, you're two weeks dead
I never died, says she
I never died, says she
You'd just dropped off your little son
at school, Renee, I said
The raging ICE goon fired three times --
Said she, But I'm not dead
Said she, But I'm not dead
The ICE goon murdered you, Renee,
Right in the street, I cried
Three times he shot you in the face
Says she, I didn't die
Says she, I didn't die
And sweet and gentle as in life
And smiling with her eyes
She says, What they could never kill
Went on to organize
Went on to organize
Renee's not dead, she says to me
Renee has never died.
When good folk stand up for their rights
Renee is at their side
Renee is at their side
When we say no to fear and hate,
And when what we obey
Is "Love your neighbor as yourself"
It's there you'll find Renee
It's there you'll find Renee
I dreamed I saw Renee last night
Alive as you or me
Says I, Renee, you're two weeks dead
I never died, says she
I never died, says she
