STORYLINE:
Officials in Bucharest, Romania, have stepped up security around the city in preparation for the 20th NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) Summit, where 30 presidents will take part in a key three day meeting.
The last NATO Summit was held in Riga, in 2006.
In Bucharest on Saturday, security officials started moving crowd control barriers into place outside the Romanian Parliament buildings.
Extra police and security will be brought into Bucharest especially for the summit.
Earlier in the week AP Television filmed special security forces - including snipers - practicing training exercises in the lead up to the summit.
NATO members are expected to discuss the granting the two ex-Soviet states the so-called Membership Action Plan - a precursor to full NATO membership.
The summit, taking place on the April 2 - April 4, is turning into a critical test for the alliance, which is split on the issue of membership for Ukraine and Georgia.
The United States, Canada and Eastern European members are backing them, but Germany is leading western European opposition, warning that granting the membership plan would torpedo hopes of improving relations with Russia.
