American Bandstand 1967 -TOP 10- You Got What It Takes, The Dave Clark Five

I’m glad all over to share these bits and pieces of American Bandstand because of great dancing and music by groups like The Dave Clark Five. You can play these clips over and over or any way you want it, and it never gets old. It’s good old rock ‘n’ roll and I like it like that. (ok, that’s enough)

The DC5’s last top 10 hit peaks at #7 today. The group is nearing the end of the road as their last top 40 hit will be their next single “You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby” (#35 in ’67). They will disband in 1970.

The dancers who got what it takes today are: Barbara Prentis (0:55), Patty Barden (1:13), Daniel Del Campos (1:38), Paul Gilbert (1:57), John Pollard (2:08), Lori Montgomery (2:35), DeeDee Del Campos (3:02), and Don Sanuskar & Pat Moriarty (behind DeeDee at 3:11). Bonus points if you can spot the quick flashes of Famous Hooks, Frank Vanderpuil and Olivia Favela.

…..And in music news, The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their very first album, “Are You Experienced”, yesterday (May 12) in the UK. The North American version will be released in August and will spend 106 weeks on the charts in the U.S., peaking at #5. Man, I’d love to see them play “Purple Haze” on Bandstand. It would probably have to be taped around 4:20 though.
