The Naval Aviation Museum

The Naval Aviation Museum is a military museum located in Bogmalo, 6 km from Vasco da Gama, Goa, India. This museum contains exhibits that showcase the evolution of the Indian Naval Air Arm over decades. The museum is divided into two main parts, an outdoor exhibit and a two-storey indoor gallery. The museum was inaugurated in October 1998 and is one of the two military aviation museums in India, the other being the Indian Air Force Museum, Palam in Delhi. The Naval Aviation Museum is the only of its kind in Asia.

One of the two military museums in India, Naval Aviation Museum displays various aircrafts used by the Indian navy throughout its history. Naval Aviation Museum is one of its kind in Asia.

The museum was inaugurated in 1998 and has the interior that looks like that of INS Viraat. It has a number of galleries showcasing naval equipment, important battles, a simulation room, and an extensive granite plaque that pays tribute to those brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in service of the country. The museum also houses a photo gallery that commemorates all the major battles of Indian Navy including the notable Operation Vijay.

One of the first rooms of the Naval Aviation Museum showcases a collection of arms including bombs, rockets, warheads, torpedoes, depth charges, etc. Another room named Sonobouy Room, displays a collection of sonobouys which are sensors used by Aircraft for detecting underwater enemy targets.

Yet another room, Suraksha Room exhibits gear and gadgets used for protection while at sea and in the air like the parachute, floating dinghy, ejector seat, pilot’s overalls and more.

The major attraction of the Naval Aviation Museum is the Multimedia Room that houses the Jet cockpit simulator; a programme that allows visitors to simulate the experience of being in the cockpit of a fighter jet.
