Dear dog friends,

I hope this video helps you understand the steps of teaching fetch!

#1 HAVE FUN- this should be a fun game for you and your dog.

#2 Don't run after your dog! Run away from them & don't go to grab for the toy that they have(remember you don't want to steal the toy, you want to encourage them to come running to you with the toy in their mouth.)

#3 Use two toys! - must be identical so the dog doesn't favorite one over the other. (Balls, tugs, Frisbee, plush toys anything your dog might be interested in chasing works)

#4 When you are done training with them, the toys get put away where the dog can't get to them/see them. *SO IMPORTANT

#5 You have to build this drive for the toy!!! If you aren't sweating when playing with your dog, you aren't trying hard enough! GET MOVING

#6 In the beginning you have to make the toy you have, more exciting then the toy in their mouth. (This mean you have to be a really fun human, running away, tossing your toy/ball in the air, making funny sounds, and having a really fun time for your dog to want to come see what you are doing.)

#7 Run away with "your" toy and only throw it if they come to you or let go of their toy.

*if they drop their toy, DO NOT GO FOR IT YET

#8 Don't say drop it if you are not 100% sure they will drop it. You teach them how to do the action, then add the word. (Because dogs don't speak English)

#9 Practice, Practice, Practice!!!!

#10 MAKE IT FUN! ! ! ! ! ! ! !



*Fetch is not only great exercise, but its a great way to build a bond with your dog & eventually be used in place of treats for training!

Playing with your dog is so important!
