Cutting open.. AGATES? Veryifing mineral identity by cutting open on Lapidary Saw.

Are these two stones agates?? We are going be cutting them on my saw to verify their identity. I was sent these possible Lake Superior agates from Cameron and Maggie and we cut each one in half to see if they are agates or not. Watch to see which one is an agate!

I had such a blast in this lapidary video cutting open these two potential Lake Superior agates. These possible agate stones are from the U.P of Michigan, home of the Yooperlite, and we take them to my 10" lapidary saw to cut them in half. One of these rocks is absolutely an agate and one is chert. Watch to see which is which!

In this video, we'll be looking at how to identify mineral content in AGATES by cutting open the mineral on a lapidary saw. By doing this, we can very easily see the different types of minerals within the AGATE.
