Dozens of earthquakes rock Southern California! 🌎
At least 40 earthquakes have been recorded since Saturday morning, with the largest reaching a magnitude of 4.4. This seismic activity is being caused by shifting tectonic plates in a region known for its high activity, particularly around Holtville, Imperial Valley, and the Salton Trough.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the first earthquake was detected at 1:40 a.m. local time, and tremors were felt as far away as Arizona and Mexico. Hundreds of residents reported shaking, although most of the tremors were small and not felt.

Experts warn that this series of earthquakes could signal a shift in stress along major faults, including the San Andreas Fault, which is known to have the potential to trigger a major earthquake measuring 7.9 or greater. This region has a history of strong earthquakes, including major ones in 1940 and 1979 that caused significant damage.
