Folklorist Joe Hickerson about his career as an archivist, researcher, singer and songwriter.

Speaker Biography: Joe Hickerson is widely known as a folklorist, ethnomusicologist, archivist, librarian and folksinger. During his 35 years at the Library of Congress, he served as reference librarian of the Archives of Folk Song, and as head of the Archives of Folk Song and Archives of Folk Culture (currently known as the American Folklife Center Archives). His long and varied career began in New Haven, Ct., as a fledgling folksinger, continued at Oberlin College during a crucial period of growth of folk music activity, and led him to Indiana University, where he studied folklore, ethnomusicology and anthropology under such legendary scholars as Richard M. Dorson and George Herzog. His credits also include co-writing "Where Have all the Flowers Gone" with Pete Seeger.
