Ghouls 'n Ghosts: Every System Tested (and Worst Version Revealed)

Ghouls N Ghosts from Capcom was released in the arcades in 1988 and was the follow-up to the Capcom classic that was Ghosts N Goblins originally released in 1985 and was an instant arcade classic. So it was no surprise that Capcom followed this up with a sequel in the guise of Ghouls N Ghosts which followed an improved formula from the Ghosts N Goblins original.

Ghouls N Ghosts had amazing graphics and a superb arcade soundtrack that was befitting the theme of this platform run-and-gun-themed arcade video game. Capcom had struck again and in the arcade game themed Ghouls N Ghosts had another arcade classic hit on their hands which meant it would make the obvious leap onto the coin op conversions of the 8 Bit and 16 Bit home computer systems of the day, which was brought to us by US Gold software.

This game was also released on several consoles and was later released on some console compilations for the different systems namely Playstation, Sega Saturn and a reworked version for the Nintendo Switch.

So join OGDuffy in his latest VS comparison video where he compares the classic arcade game by Capcom Ghouls N Ghosts firstly giving his verdict on the best 8 Bit home computer conversion, then the 16 Bit home computer conversion and a final look at the original console releases from the day, namely the Sega Master System and the Sega Megadrive / Genesis conversions.

So which version of Ghouls N Ghosts will win in the 8 Bit versions, the humble Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 or the Amstrad CPC? Then to the 16 Bit versions where OGDuffy announces his winner between the mighty Atari ST and the Commodore Amiga.

Unfortunately, the Sega Master System version did not have a NES version to compare to and although there was a release of Super Ghouls N Ghosts on the Super Nintendo this was not a conversion from the Capcom arcade classic so will not be looked at. But, of course as always OGDuffy will take a play on the arcade original game first so we know exactly what we are comparing too.
