This webinar was a part of CUGH's 2025 Virtual Global Health Week.
Summary: This interactive workshop addresses one of the most pressing global health challenges: the limited research capacity and unequal participation of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in clinical trials. Strengthening local capacity to conduct ethical, high-quality research is essential to ensuring that global health innovations are inclusive, contextually relevant, and sustainable. Clinical trials in LMICs often face multiple barriers, including insufficient infrastructure, complex regulatory environments, and limited access to mentorship opportunities. However, these same challenges also create opportunities to foster equitable research partnerships, improve health outcomes, and empower local investigators to lead studies that address regional health priorities.
The workshop combines expert presentations, case-based discussions, and small-group mentoring to provide participants with both theoretical foundations and practical tools for designing and implementing clinical trials in resource-limited settings. This recording includes only the first part of the session (expert presentations).
