The casino lights flickered like a thousand tiny suns as Brettski stepped onto the carpet, gripping the envelope in his pocket. Inside it: exactly $5,000. His mission was simple—turn it into $10,000, or walk out with nothing.

No stopping halfway.

He sat down at a blackjack table with a $100 minimum. The dealer, a quiet woman with silver nails, shuffled the cards slowly. Brettski started carefully—$100 bets, small wins, small losses. After twenty minutes he was up to $5,900.

Then came the first twist.

A wild hand: two eights against the dealer’s six. He split them. Another eight appeared. He split again. The table leaned in as the bets stacked—$400 now in play. Cards flipped. 18. 19. 21.

The dealer busted.

Just like that, Brettski jumped to $7,100.

But the heater didn’t last.

An hour later the chips bled away—bad doubles, brutal dealer blackjacks, a painful 20 losing to 21. His stack shrank… $4,000… $3,000… $2,200.

The mission was slipping.

Brettski pushed back from the table and wandered the floor until a glowing machine caught his eye: a high-limit slot humming quietly in the corner.
