All the Fair Isle & Norwegian Hats I Knit During Quarantine in 2020

I learned a lot about various yarn brands I tested along with a wide variety of construction techniques and how to work out good color combinations that I share in this video. All the details for the yarn brand, colors, pattern names and needle sizes are listed in my Ravelry account.

Notes: The only yarn I tried that I didn't like was the Isager Alpaca yarn, it is a lovely yarn but I could never find the right needle combination to work with it so I can't really recommend it for color work knitting. It is a very slippery yarn and it really does require a needle with just the right amount of friction. I thought a Signature Needle Arts circular needle might have made a perfect fit but the join (where the cable is attached to the needle) from this brand would not stay secure. I was given 2 replacements by the company and I continued to have the same problem with the join for both replacements.

For most of my hat knitting I use the 16" Addi Turbo Rockets for Lace (love those tips) which worked well for both slippery yarn and yarn that is more coarse. When you reach a certain point on the crown where you need to switch to double pointed needles, I use Signature Needle Arts DPN's which I think work fantastic (it is really extra nice using the 4" size for the very top in the final rounds). I use the stiletto tips that give a lot of control for color work knitting.
